Russia to talk with Indian and Chinese Foreign ministers

Today External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will talk to Russian and Chinese counterparts

The trilateral talks between India-China and Russia will be held on Tuesday amidst ongoing tension on the border. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar will speak at a virtual press conference with his Chinese and Russian counterparts at 1:30 pm on Tuesday afternoon. The Foreign Ministers of India and China will be face to face for the first time after the Galvan Valley incident.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will host this trilateral meeting. Russia wants the two countries to resolve their border dispute through negotiations. This conversation is to take place when Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is on a three-day visit to Russia since Monday.

A senior diplomat said that this is an excellent opportunity for the three countries to come together. The meeting between the foreign ministers of the three countries may also discuss the creation of the 7200 km long International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC). With this corridor, India, Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asia will be able to connect with Europe.

Dragon escaping comment on Indian claim

China on Monday refused to comment on Union Minister and former Army Chief General (retd) VK Singh’s statement that more than 40 Chinese soldiers were killed in the Galvan Valley incident.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian again reiterated that China and India are in touch with each other to improve the situation at the ground level through diplomatic and military channels. When asked about VK Singh’s statement, Zhao said, “I have no information to make a statement about this.”

At the same time, Indian sources said that 43 soldiers of China were killed in the Galvan conflict, while 20 soldiers of India were martyred.

Soon after the India-China military, diplomatic talks will be held. Given the ongoing tension at the border, India-China will soon hold diplomatic level talks. Officials of the two countries are working on scheduling a dialogue and a meeting will be held soon for this.

This diplomatic level dialogue will take place at several levels, including the Joint Secretary. However, no official statement has yet come from the two sides regarding the meeting.
