Assam: BJP leader accused of attempted rape, arrested

ASP Suman Chakraborty of Hajoi district said that a woman from the Lanka police station has filed a complaint against the leader. In the complaint filed on May 11, he alleged that the BJP leader tried to rape her in his house.

In Assam, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been arrested for attempting to rape. The incident is from Hajoi district of Assam. The BJP leader is accused of trying to rape a woman.

The accused has been identified as Kamrul Haque Chaudhary. The accused leader is the president of the BJP Minority Morcha of Hajoi district. A case has been registered in the Central District of Assam under sections 376, 511 and 506 of the IPC.

ASP Suman Chakraborty of Hajoi district said that a woman from the Lanka police station has filed a complaint against the leader. In the complaint filed on May 11, he alleged that the BJP leader tried to rape her in his house. The ASP said, ‘The complaint stated that the accused person touched the private parts of the woman. After this, a complaint was filed. We have registered a case and arrested the accused person.

The police presented the accused leader on Friday in the local court of Shankar Dev Nagar in Hajoi district. The court sent him to judicial custody in Bahad. On the other hand, after the incident came to light, the Assam BJP expelled the accused leader from the party. A statement issued by the Assam BJP said that Kamarul Haque Chaudhary is expelled from the primary membership of the party. This action has been taken in view of anti-social activities.
